Cookie Policy
The cookies and similar technologies our website uses.
Version: 1.0 Effective: 15 October 2026
Download PDFEssential technology keeps the website secure. Preference, statistics and marketing technologies are optional where consent is required and should remain inactive until the relevant choice is made.
Applies to: Visitors to bateleureducation.co.za and related public web pages under Bateleur’s control.
Document reference BE-COOKIE-003 · Reviewed annually and whenever the law or our practice materially changes.
Meaning and coverage
Cookies are small files saved by a browser. Similar technologies include local storage, identifiers, pixels and embedded media. They can remember preferences, protect accounts, measure site use or enable advertising. This policy covers the Bateleur public website and interfaces where Bateleur controls the implementation. Separate third-party services may issue their own cookies under their policies.
This policy must be read with the Privacy Policy. A cookie that identifies a visitor, alone or with other information, may constitute personal information under POPIA.
Categories and reasons
- Strictly necessary: security, session continuity, load balancing, login, forms and storage of privacy choices. These are used to deliver the requested service or protect the website and cannot always be switched off through the consent tool.
- Preferences: remembering non-essential settings such as display choices. Where the particular use requires consent, these remain off until enabled.
- Statistics: understanding aggregate visits, page performance and usage patterns. Where data can identify visitors or the law requires authorisation, deploy only on a suitable lawful basis and obtain consent when needed.
- Marketing: audience measurement, advertising profiling and cross-site attribution. Such technology is not essential and must not be activated before the required valid consent.
- Embedded services: video, social media or other externally delivered content may set cookies when loaded; embed behaviour must be configured to respect choices where applicable.
Managing your choices
The website may present "Accept", "Deny" and "View preferences" options. "Deny" must permit rejection of optional categories without disabling necessary services. Consent must be freely given, specific and informed where required. Visitors must be able to change or withdraw their optional preferences using the website’s "Manage consent" control, if implemented.
A visitor may also delete or block cookies in browser settings. Browser blocking is separate from withdrawing website consent. Essential site features such as sign-in may then be unavailable. We do not treat a failure to opt out, scrolling or merely continuing to browse as valid affirmative consent for marketing.
Duration, parties and exact cookie inventory
Cookies may last only for a session or for a defined persistent period. The cookie name, provider, classification, purpose and storage duration can change when site functionality or plugins are updated. Bateleur must maintain a current cookie inventory following a live technical scan and make it available through the consent interface or linked register; this policy deliberately does not claim an unverified inventory is complete.
Where a third party processes personal information on our behalf, POPIA operator and cross-border requirements must be assessed. Visitors can review a provider’s own privacy notice before using external embeds.
Educational accounts and children
Learning portals, classroom platforms and other services may use strictly necessary authentication and security cookies. These are governed by platform-specific notices where appropriate. Do not introduce behavioural advertising or unnecessary profiling within child-facing learning environments.
If an optional technology collects a child’s personal information, confirm the required legal basis under POPIA, including section 35 where relevant, before deployment.
Monitoring, testing and changes
The website administrator must re-scan cookies after deploying a new plugin, analytics tag, advertising script, embedded video or consent manager. Test that refusal actually blocks optional scripts and that withdrawal takes effect. Preserve appropriate consent evidence and implement secure retention.
Questions about website tracking may be sent to support@bateleureducation.co.za. Material changes to tracking practices must be reflected in this policy and in the consent interface before use where required.

What this website uses today
- Essential storage. When you sign in to the parent, student or teacher portal, your browser keeps a sign-in token so you stay signed in. It is removed when you log out.
- Spam protection. Forms may use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated programs.
We do not currently use advertising, statistics or other optional tracking technologies, so there is no cookie banner. If this changes we will update this policy and ask for your consent before using them.
